Phoenix Sustainable Investments' 49.9MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Paisley continues to progress towards construction.

Working alongside development partner Ikigai Energy, the project has secured updated planning permission and grid connection approvals and is now progressing funding ahead of a planned construction start in early 2027. Subject to the final programme, the scheme is expected to become operational in summer 2028.

Located on a former gas storage site, the project will transform brownfield land into modern energy infrastructure while retaining the site's historic Grade A listed gasholder frame. The development demonstrates how renewable energy infrastructure, brownfield regeneration and heritage conservation can work together to support the UK's transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
