Special recognition at the Energy Saving Awards

ep Group is proud to announce that our founder, Dr Steven Fawkes, has been honoured at the Energy Saving Awards with the Special Recognition Award for his outstanding contributions to energy efficiency over the course of his career.

For more than 45 years, Steve has been a driving force in advancing the understanding, adoption, and financing of energy efficiency worldwide. He began his work in energy efficiency in the early 1980s, following a PhD focused on energy efficiency in UK industry. Since then, his career has included the delivery of large-scale energy management programmes, developing innovative energy services contracts, and advising governments and international organisations including the EU, UNDP, USAID, and the World Bank.

A significant focus of Steve’s work has been on scaling investment in energy efficiency. He led the Investor Confidence Project Europe, standardising energy efficiency project development to improve transparency and investability, and contributed significantly to the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group, advocating for practical methods to unlock private capital for investment in energy efficiency.

Since founding ep Group in 2012, Steve has guided corporates, investors, governments, and multilaterals in designing, developing, and financing net zero projects. The Group’s joint venture with India’s EESL has invested more than £65 million in the UK, and our recently announced joint venture with Pixii AS, a Norwegian battery technology company, marks the latest step in ep Group’s work to deliver sustainable, scalable energy infrastructure and technology solutions.

Steve has made substantial contributions to the cannon of energy efficiency research, authoring more than 400 publications, including three books, and he maintains the long-running blog Only Eleven Percent. He has delivered over 250 presentations worldwide, frequently as a keynote speaker, sharing insights from both policy and practical project experience. His contributions have been recognised by the Energy Institute, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, and the India Business Group.

We are delighted to see Steve’s lifelong commitment to accelerating the energy transition acknowledged through this award, and proud to continue building on the foundations he has laid.
